7 ways to generate web traffic

http://www.webpreneuronline.com/

Web traffic is the amount of data sent and received by visitors to a web site. A site without visitors may as well not exist. It’s important to monitor the incoming and outgoing traffic to see which parts or pages of your site are popular and if there are any apparent trends. By analysing the statistics of visitors, it is possible to see shortcomings of the site and look to improve those areas. It is also possible to increase the popularity of a site and the number of people that visit it. This articles provides 7 ways for you to extend your reach and attract your audience.

1.Search Engines
Web traffic can be increased by placement of a site in search engines. Search engines use regularly updated indexes. When a user enters a query into a search engine (typically by using key words), the engine examines its index and provides a listing of best-matching web pages according to its criteria, usually with a short summary containing the document's title and sometimes parts of the text. To submit your site to:
Yahoo: http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html
Google:http://www.google.com/addurl.html
MSN: http://search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx

2.Link Popularity

Link popularity is a measure of the quantity and quality of other web sites that link to your site on the World Wide Web. It is an example of the move by search engines towards off-the-page-criteria to determine quality content. Link popularity plays an important role in the visibility of a web site among the top of the search results. Search engines such as Google use a special link analysis system to rank web pages. Indeed, some search engines require at least one or more links coming to a web site, otherwise they will drop it from their index. The best way to increase your site's visibility is email other sites with a similar target audience and offer an incentive deal to exchange links to each others benefit.

3.Online Advertising

Online Advertising is advertising on the Internet. As more of the world's population look to the internet for news and information, online advertising has grown in popularity. Advertising online is simple and cost effective. Using 'keywords' users or customers are able to refine their search for a particular product or service. Advertisers bid on these keywords and search engines match them to website businesses that are listed under these words or categories. To advertise online a great option is Google AdWords which allows you to control your budget spend and much more. (http://adwords.google.com )

4.Off-line Advertising

This is the traditional medium to deliver your business advertising, this includes: television, radio, movies, magazines, newspapers and billboards. A review of your local newspaper will guide you on who to contact to place an ad and the same for the other traditional media services.

5.Organic Traffic

Web traffic which comes from unpaid listing at search engines or directories is commonly known as "organic" traffic. Organic traffic can be generated or increased by including your website in directories (such as Yahoo! and DMOZ ) and guides (such as yellow pages and restaurant guides) and award sites.

6. Press Release

Press release is a written or recorded communication directed at members of the news media for the purpose of announcing something claimed as having news value. Typically, it is mailed, faxed, or e-mailed to assignment editors at newspapers, magazines, radio stations, television stations, and/or television networks. For the webpreneur this means emailing info about your exciting web business/product and highlighting the added value aspect of your business that makes it news worthy. There are many internet firms that will offer you a low cost/free press release, some of these are www.prweb.com , www.free-press-release.com and www.press-world.com .

7.Blogs

Blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject such as food, politics, or local news; some function as more personal online diaries. Blogs are also a good way to refer to your site via links. These are regularly indexed by search engines. If you don't already have a blog, try Google's free service as a start:blogger
